Windows XP Home and Professional
Windows XP Home and Professional usually do not require client utilities, as Windows XP will manage most cards without any problems. Keep in mind with Windows XP that what you see on the screen may not be exactly the same as the pictures in this guide, as the appearance of Windows XP can be highly modified. To get started with configuring your wireless card, click on the "Start" menu and select "Control Panel," then click on "Network and Internet Connections," as shown below.
Double-click on the option that says "Network Connections." This will load a screen that looks like the one below:
Right-click on the "Wireless Network Connection" option to open a window that looks like the one above, then click on the "Properties" option to load a window that looks like this:
To check your wireless card configuration, click on the "Wireless Networks" tab at the top of the screen.
On the screen above, make sure that "Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings" is checked. Please note: you can use other methods of configuration (manufacturer-specific utilities), but they must be Windows XP-compatible.
To set up a GuestLinX wireless connection, click on the "Add ..." button to open the window shown below:
On this window, make sure that the "Network name" is set to "guestlinx" (without the quotes, case-sensitive), as shown. Also make sure that the "Data encryption" and "Network Authentication" options are unchecked. At the bottom of the window, the "This is a computer-to-computer ..." option MUST be unchecked. When the configuration is set as shown, click the "OK" button.
Now click on the "Authentication" tab to open the window shown below:
On the "Authentication" tab, make sure that "Enable network access control using IEEE 802.1X" is unchecked. Most
GuestLinX access points do not yet support 802.1X. When finished, click "OK." You should now be connected; if not, please call
GuestLinX Technical Operations Center toll-free at 1-800-266-3585.
